In Tulum, where the jungle breathes toward the sea and the skin carries a trace of salt, EK Studio explores the luxury of inhabiting the natural: a soft, honest experience deeply tied to the landscape.
In this project, EK Studio shapes an outdoor environment where every choice responds to a principle of harmony. Nothing stands out, nothing competes: furniture, textures, and woven elements act as discreet amplifiers of experience, allowing memory to hold onto what truly matters—the sound of the ocean, the scent of salt, the moving light, and the wind passing through the palms.
The pieces created by EK Studio maintain a quiet, simple presence. They support the scene without demanding attention—accessories that accompany one’s perception of place and help both body and gaze soften. The material palette—natural fibers, weathered woods, neutral tones, and honest textures—reduces visual noise and elevates a beauty born from authenticity.
The chromatic palette—charcoal greys, deep earthy tones, and soft neutrals—was chosen to highlight the vibrant colors of nature, allowing the blue of the sea, the green of the vegetation, and the Caribbean light to become protagonists.
Among the textile elements, the handcrafted blankets from Oaxaca stand out—woven and dyed by hand, they bring warmth while preserving traditional techniques deeply rooted in Mexican culture. This commitment to locality strengthens small businesses, supports artisan families, and sustains a material language belonging to the territory.
The wind, far from being a challenge, is a fundamental actor considered from the beginning. EK Studio understands its rhythm as part of the landscape. For this reason, the woven umbrellas—crafted from tree-root fibers sourced from the jungle—are firmly anchored to the ground, acting as natural windbreaks. Their artisanal construction allows air to pass gently through them, creating no noise or interference, but rather a soft dialogue in which wind and material seem to share the same origin.
The suspended lamps follow this same logic. Their slow sway adds a natural pulse to the space and creates a delicate frame that guides the gaze toward the sea. Their subtle movement suggests an intimate cadence, as if the entire atmosphere breathed with the ocean.
The raw canvas canopies complete the atmosphere without imposing. They accompany the shade of the palms, filter tropical light, and offer gentle refuge from the sun. The layering of shadows—palm, canopy, lamp, fiber—produces a light shelter, a protection that does not weigh or enclose but invites lingering and contemplation.
The soft repetition of furniture, the verticality of trunks, and the natural modulation of shadows produce a balance felt even before it is understood. This is a design that breathes with its surroundings and allows nature to set the pace. EK Studio proposes a form of luxury that arises not from excess but from the ability to make space for what is essential.
